2023-24 Impact Report
Our Place in the Community
For 40 years, YFS has been a part of the Logan community. As we celebrate our continuing connection to community, the theme for this YFS Impact Report is “Our place in the community”.
2023-24 has been a year of significant demand on our community.
Our revenue grew by 21%. This allowed us to introduce new services and expand some existing services to meet increased demand.
New services included Homelessness Outreach, Centre-based Housing support and Immediate Housing Response. We also introduced new domestic and family violence counselling roles and embedded domestic and family violence workers in police stations.
While our activity has increased, we appreciate that there is still unmet demand. We will continue to advocate for more resources in Logan.
We acknowledge our donors, funders, and supporters. It has been amazing to see the generosity of the community.
- Funding from the Ellen Whitty Trust has allowed YFS to buy five properties to house clients.
- Commonwealth Bank funded an innovative response to financial abuse recovery.
- Donations from Hand Heart Pocket, Logan Rec Club, and Lady Bowen Trust helped people through the housing crisis.
- Gifts donated by individuals and organisations made Christmas better for some of the people that we work with.
Many people contributed to our work in 2023-24. We thank our partners, board directors, volunteers, and especially YFS staff.
Finally, we acknowledge the people that we support and work alongside. We look forward to recognising and celebrating our place in the community over 40 years.
We measure impact across the organisation to understand the change we are making and continuously evaluate and implement improvements informed by this evaluation.
We work alongside young people to build their capacity to live independently and participate in the local community.
YFS supports families to build strong parenting skills and help them feel confident and connected to community.
To feel like you belong in a community, everyone needs a safe and stable place to call home.
YFS supports people in our community who are impacted by domestic and family violence, help those using violence to understand the beliefs that drive their behaviour, and raise awareness to prevent violence.
YFS supports people to find employment and take back control of their financial and legal issues, so that they can live independently and participate in their community.
We work with partners in government, business and community to improve the service system, promote inclusion, and advocate for a fairer society.
The YFS Board strengthened leadership, enhanced risk management, and implemented new safeguarding policies, ensuring we’re well-positioned to meet Logan’s growing needs.
YFS experienced significant growth over the financial year ending 30 June 2024, resulting in a strong financial position.
Stories From Our Community
Every day we are inspired by the people we work alongside. These are some of their stories.
Yosan and her brother were homeless and struggling when a referral to YFS changed everything. With support from YFS coaches, they secured stable housing together, allowing Yosan to finish high school and pursue her goal of working in health services. Her story highlights the impact of support and the strength to keep going through tough times.
After moving to Logan to be with his newborn son, Matt found himself at risk of homelessness and struggling with multiple health challenges. With support from YFS’s Step by Step program, Matt secured stable housing, qualified for the Disability Support Pension, and is now working toward his goal of becoming a personal trainer. He credits the YFS team with transforming his life, helping him build a better future for himself and his son.
YFS invests in our future workforce by providing professional placement opportunities for students. Grace started in a work placement in the Logan Zero team and worked across various areas of YFS before finding a permanent role in the Transition to Adulthood team.
