Don’t be stuck in a rut – gain financial wellbeing instead.

And the experts are prepared to help out for free offering important guidance and advice at Logan’s first ever Deal with Debt Day.

Receive free financial guidance when local support service YFS unites with community groups and government agencies on Monday, March 4, 10am – 2pm at the Logan Entertainment Centre.

The day has attracted experts from the Queensland and electricity and water ombudsmen, the State Penalties Enforcement Registry, Centrelink, Logan City Council’s rates department, Legal Aid Queensland, the Office of Fair Trading, the Department of Public Works and Housing, utility providers, the Queensland Statewide Tenant Advice and Referral Service (QSTARS) and the Logan Financial Literacy Action Group.

Chief organiser, YFS financial counsellor Kristine Fry, said the event would offer information and direction for people experiencing financial stress.

“Our Deal with Debt Day aims to raise awareness of the extensive support network that’s out there for people who are struggling financially,” Ms Fry said.

“Come along and talk face-to-face with the people who can make a difference to your financial wellbeing.”

The appointment-free event is open to anyone experiencing hardship.

“The professionals on hand will offer information and advice to help you get on top of your rent, Centrelink payments, utility bills and fines,” Ms Fry said.

“They’ll help you deal with debt collectors and assist you to better understand the credit and loan contracts that you may already have.

“During the day, we will be talking about No Interest Loan Schemes (NILS), which are ideal for people on low incomes because they provide safe, fair and affordable access to credit.

“YFS colleagues and I help people every day through our financial counselling work. We’re holding this community event in a bid to support many more Logan people.”

There will be a free sausage sizzle on the day plus complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits.

“While money won’t be given out, the day’s information and advice will be priceless,” Ms Fry added.

YFS is a not-for-profit organisation delivering services to Logan residents who are disadvantaged, vulnerable or want to improve their circumstance.

Over time it has evolved into a very diverse organisation with a multitude of services delivered in Logan and surrounding areas.
