On Wednesday 4th November 2015, more than 30 local social enterprises in Logan will showcase their products and services at the Logan Social Enterprise Marketplace and Forum 2015.
Logan’s first Social Enterprise Expo will allow the local business community to connect and network with new and existing social enterprises in the area.
Social enterprises use commercial approaches to generate social benefits – like providing work opportunities for disadvantaged people or creating environmental change.
“This is a great opportunity for Logan’s greatest social businesses to meet, greet and interact, all at the one event,” says Tony Sharp, Social Enterprise Development Manager for Substation33, YFS’ social enterprise.
“The general community can also get the chance to discover ways they can support these enterprises by accessing well-priced products and services,” he added.
The Logan Social Enterprise Marketplace and Forum will feature guest speakers such as:
• Tony Sharp, Social Enterprise Development Manager, Substation33
• Steve Williams, Chair, Queensland Social Enterprise Council
• Richard Warner, Coordinator, Nundah Community Enterprises Cooperative
• Professor Dave Adamson, Research and Development Manager, Compass Housing.
The event has been coordinated by Substation 33, in partnership with other local social enterprises including Access Community Services, Logan City Community Housing and BoysTown.
Substation33 operates as an electronic waste recycling centre in Logan, providing a workplace where volunteers and employees gain confidence and skills for the transition to sustainable employment.
At Substation33, volunteers disassemble eWaste and direct the materials back into the recycling industry.
In the 2014/15 financial year Substation33 diverted 100,000 kilograms of eWaste from landfill, created 7,350 hours of paid employment and supervised 22,379 hours of work experience and volunteering.
