Substation33 in top five countrywide
Substation33 has been recognised as one of the top five social enterprises in Australia in a global search.
Conducted by Chivas Regal, The Venture is a global initiative that seeks to uncover and award the leading social enterprise on the planet.
Chivas Regal Australia marketing director Anne Martin said a key driver of The Venture was to enable social entrepreneurs to realise their potential, gain exposure for their business and in turn, inspire others to join and support the movement.
More than 50 entries were submitted in Australia, with the top five invited to pitch their social enterprise to a panel of judges in Sydney on Tuesday night.
Substation33 founder Tony Sharp was a finalist.
Mr Sharp’s waste recycling centre provides a workplace where marginalised people can gain confidence and skills for the transition to sustainable employment while helping the environment.
While Substation33 did not claim the main prize on Tuesday night, Mr Sharp said he was proud to have been in the top five.
“It was good to show how a little social enterprise from Logan can take its place right up there on the national stage,” he said.
